Map Pin Revision

Problem Statement

The Clients POI pin has a low click rate. The clients pin is lost among the pool of other pins and is difficult to find.

Challenges

  1. Pins have are about 11 px in size which makes details hard to view

  2. There is always a pool of pins around which reduces its visual impact

  3. The client's pins are scattered around making it difficult to find

  4. The client is new in the market so their logo is not yet mainstream.

Pin Redesigns

The current design for the pins only have the logo which is not well known among its users. 

The current pin also lacks information about the offer they are providing to the user on first glance.

The revised pins have clear labels on the pin and follows a more unconventional design to stand out among other pins.

​

Testing the impact of the revised pins

I conducted a task based test where I asked the users to access business similar to our clients and then tap on client B's icons. I recorded the sessions using heat maps to understand the visual impact the pins have.

​

I was able to conclude what aspects of each testes pin was successful based on the tap errors and time taken to complete the tasks. Which gave me insights to design the finalized pin.

Finalized design

The revised design has the words "OFFER" clearly mentioned on the top of the pin. The pin also has a border to help it stand out in both light and dark modes.
